This association began in 1954. This was a big step for gifted education and it started to head in the right direction. -

Gifted and talented students were not included in this. -
1980
The field begins to mature and there is more being done for gifted students. There was more research being done so that it could be used to change gifted education for the better. -
1983
Gardeners theories of multiple intelligences begins. -
1988
The Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Act. This was a breaking point for gifted education. -
The Twenty First Century
No child left behind is established. This criteria was limiting for gifted students since they are usually above grade level.
