Dying and Rebellious Slaves
Apart from Moses the two slaves were the only two figures completed for the tomb. Meant to be bound to pilasters flanking the niches containing figures of Victory. Dying Slave seems to awaken from sleep and the Rebellious Slave tries to break free of his bonds. According to Vasari they represent the active and passive -
