Julia's Marketing Timeline

By jyulia
  • I was born

  • Polly Pocket

This ad is not in Polish, but we had the same one. It always made me excited and ready to play whenever I saw it. I liked playing with Polly Pocket when I was a child and I had a lot of sets and accessories.
  • Supermarket - Biedronka

Biedronka is a supermarket that always had funny ads when I was a child and often used puns that are hard to understand to foreigners. In this one, it's Easter time and they are using the word "sacrifice" which in Polish also means "consecrate" (declaring something sacred, in this case going to the church with a basket full of eggs and food during Easter time). We often buy groceries there and it's the most popular supermarket in the country.
  • Spreading Cheese - Almette

    Almette
In this ad, a family is on a trip together and they stop to eat a breakfast, surrounded by nature. I loved that ad when I was a child and I wanted to be that girl. The scenery was beautiful, everything was pure and delicate and everyone was so happy. We often bought that spreading cheese and ate it with fresh bread just like on the ad. It reminded me of family and made me happy whenever I saw it.
  • Through/Sru - Heyah

    Telecommunications company
This ad is mocking the fact that Polish people have trouble with pronouncing the "th" sound in English. It features a grumpy cat which instead of saying "through" says "sru" which in Polish is a form of vulgar slang used by teenagers which means "let's go". It was funny and made the brand popular amongst young people because it gave it an edge. I never had a SIM card from Heyah but several of my friends did.
  • Not for Idiots - Media Markt

Media Markt is a store with electronics and for years, their slogan has been "Not for Idiots". Their ads are usually similar, but they always end with that sentence, which has become very well known across the country and is sometimes used as a joke. It used to be unique because of how daring it was, making people who bought something there feel superior. Now, it's just annoying because of how often it is shown.
  • Butter Commercial - Delma

Butter Commercial My family doesn't buy that butter but whenever I hear this ad I can't get this song out of my head. I always end up whistling it for a week because it's so catchy.
  • Juice - Frugo

    Frugo
This ad was made in a 90's style because 2012 was the year when the brand came back after it disappeared from stores for about 20 years. It brought feelings of nostalgia to people who were young in 1990's and made people like me who have never drunk it excited about trying this popular drink from the past. It became cool to drink it at my school.
  • Vitaminer

Vitaminer is a vitamin supplement and I only remember this ad because of how annoying the song was. It is a remix of a popular folk song in Poland. I've never bought this product because I couldn't stand their ad after hearing it hundreds of times.
  • Juice - Hortex

    Hortex
This ad was released right before the start of summer and I often sang it with my friends because of how catchy the song was and because it had a summer vibe. It made us feel like we had to get that juice in order to have a good time just like on the ad. It was all about chilling out and drinking Hortex which was supposed to be a solution to the heat. The song also played with language by morphing different words with fruit names which I loved
  • Oreo

Oreo had this ad in many countries around the world in various languages, this is the Polish version. I liked it because it was different than other ads at that time. It reminded me of childhood because of the cartoon look, fictional characters and the positive, catchy lyrics that provoked thinking about "What if...". It made me buy Oreos after not eating them for a few years.
  • English for Beginners - Allegro

This is one of my favorite ads! It tells a story of a girl looking for a costume for a masquerade ball. It was created by Allegro, which is a Polish version of Amazon/eBay and my family frequently uses it. All of their ads feel genuine and spread a positive message. They usually provoke strong emotions, often making people cry when they see them. Allegro
  • Masquerade ball - Allegro

This is another one of Allegro's advertisements. It tells a story of a girl looking for a costume for a masquerade ball. It also provokes strong emotions.
  • Looking for a Polish guy - Reserved Campaign

This viral video made by a Polish clothing brand fooled millions of people in Poland. An American girl who made it was supposedly looking for a Polish guy she met at a concert. A lot of people were engaged in the search and full of hope that she will find him. The video turned out to be a part of a campaign, which created outrage and distrust in the brand. Both my mom and I own their products.
