    30 Nations involved. World War 1 was a huge global conflict caused by the increasing diplomatic tensions in the European great powers. The tensions broke on July 28 1914 due to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, sparking the world war. The fighting occurred all over Europe, Middle East, Asia, the pacific, as well as Africa. An estimated 9 million soldiers were killed in combat, plus another 23 million wounded, while 5 million civilians.

    Russian Revolution

    Period of social and political revolution. Begun during WWI because Russia was very behind in industrialization due to the Tsar. People were poor and wanted better living conditions, protesting in the streets. Unfortunately they were just shot down.

    It was a treaty signed on June 6 1919. It stated that Germany was to pay back for ALL the damages in WWI, accounting to 33 billion dollars.

    Joseph Stalin was a revolutionary who led the Soviet Union from 1922-1953 as dictator. His rule had led to the death of at least 9million people. While his rule was horrible for the people, it was quite good for the economy as he dragged Russia from the depths and made it from a poor nation to a world superpower in just under 30 years.

    The Soviet union was the first communist nation, led by the Bolsheviks. The origin of it forming leading back all the way to the Russian revolution.

    It was a great economic collapse. It was primarily caused by the stock market crashing. People stopped using banks causing the banks to also go out of business. Millions of people around the world lost their jobs and homes.

    Adolf Hitler was initially elected because he promised to fix the problems of the treaty of Versailles. However, he became a dictator and founded Nazi Germany. He was also very anti-sematic and caused the Holocaust which killed 6million people. Not only that, he also started WWII

    Was another massive global conflict involving a vast amount of the world superpowers. It began because Germany invaded Poland on September 1 1939. Ended due to Hitlers suicide and Germany surrendering. Resulted in 75-80 million casualties.

    The first monetary management agreed upon to prevent another world war. It envisioned greater cooperation between nation in order to keep peace and lower political tensions. Established the world bank and IMF.
  • GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade)

    GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade)
    An agreement between many countries in order to promote international trade. This was done by reducing trade barriers like tariffs and quotas. While it was signed in 1947, it was put in effect Jan 1 1948.

    The organization established to regulate world trade. It originated from GATT and can be considered the modern version of it.

    Covid-19 Pandemic

    Covid-19 was a global pandemic due to a virus. Being only a concern on Jan 30 2020, it quickly went out of control and complete quarantine began in late march 2020. Global deaths from the virus are 6.9 million. Late 2021 and early 2022 the pandemic started to calm down, coming to an official end on May 5th 2023.
