239 Marines were killed by a suicide bomber in Lebanon and the bomber was thought to be state-sponcered which led to the CIA investigatng other bombings and discovering that Libya had sponcered a bombing in West Berlin which led to American retaliation. -

This was the beggining of ground operations in Kuwait and eventually Iraq to put a stop to the leader Saddam Hussein for invading Kuwait and fear he would seize Saudi oil fields.
