    This was Nat turners and fifty people.They had a bloody revolt in south Hampton. This led to 60 white people being killed mainly women and children.This was the most violent slave rebellion.

    Texas was annexed by the U.S.A in 1845 this made them the 28th state. Before this texas was apart of mexico. This gave america a huge amount of territory. This contributed to the growing divide over slavery.

    The compromise of 1850 was when California applied to be a free state. This was important for a few reasons one reason was that there would be more free state senators then slave state senators. Making the balance of free state senators have more would result in a vote for something including slavery to be more likely to rule in favor of antislavery. Another thing this did was make everyone more against slavery with California not being for slavery.

    This includes what happens with slave when they escape. This rule says escaped slaves were to be returned to there owners. The federal government would have to return and try escaped slaves. This law helped benefit the south.This made the government look like it had slavery over freedom.This helped contribute to the antislavery republican party.

    Bleeding Kansas is a violent thing that happened. Both pro slavery and antislavery flooded the new territory to change the vote. This violent uprising led to 55 deaths.These brutal confrontations led to the civil war.

    Anthony burns escaped Virginia in 1854. He was caught and then sent back to Boston.This made people in the north upset.His arrest had protest happening someone tried to take him out of the courthouse.The reason this contributed to the civil war is once again it made the nations more divided.

    In 1846 Dred Scott and his wife sued for his freedom in St.louis Circuit Court in 1846.They claimed that they were free because there owner took them to live in a free state prohibited. This supreme court case took 11 years . This upheld slavery in US terrorizes denied black citizenship and made the Missouri comprise act unconstitutional. This destroyed the agreement between slave and free states and made everyone in the nation angry.

    John brown and Harper's ferry
    John brown and a group of his followers raided the Federal arsenal at Harper's ferry Virginia. He was then put on trial for treason. He was viewed as a lawless criminal in the south and a martyr in the north. Southerners said there could be no union with a man who tried to start a rebellion. This mad accomindation between the north and south impossible.

    This was a four way contest between Abraham Lincoln,Stephen Douglass and John Bell. Lincoln won the election by 40%. This was a victory for the north. This made the south feel threatened. The south feeling threatened helped lead to the civil war.
