The NEA is the nations largest professional organization committed to the cause of public education. This made Teachers nationwide able to "fight" for their rights and what they believe in as educators with an organization and support behind them. -

After Brown V. Board, it was ruled that segregation in public schools was ruled unconstitutional however, Little Rock Nine proved that more than a ruling was needed for equal racial rights in schools. Little Rock Nine started a movement of integrated schools in the south. -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
IDEA is a law that made free appropriate and equal public education available to those with disabilities. It also started to change the social outlook on those with a wide range of disabilities. -
No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
NCLB was going to ideally close achievement gaps and provide equal opportunities to students of all backgrounds. Instead, it made standardized testing and the ability to take these tests to determine the intelligence of students rather than focusing on the whole child. -
