Brown Vs. Board of Education
This case is a Landmark in the Supreme Court in which they ruled that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional. Mr. Brown filed a suit against the BOE of Topeka, Kansas because he daughter was denied entry into an all-white public school. Mr. Brown stated that schools for black children were not the same as all the schools for white children and this was a violation of the 14th amendment. -

Mills Vs. Board of Education of the District of Columbia (1972), was one of two important federal trial court rulings that helped lay the foundation to the passage of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA), which is now the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These were laws that changed the face of American education. -
Individuals With Disabilities Education Act
This act ensures that all children with a disability receive free public education that meets their needs. The IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide services for eligible students. This act supports the needs of students with disabilities by making sure that students are receiving the public education they are entitled to have. It also requires each student to receive an IEP, as well as having parents be apart of decisions that are made about their child. -
Board of Education Vs. Rowley
The case of Rowley Vs. Hendrick Hudson School District was the U.S. Supreme Court's first encounter with what was then called the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, which is now "IDEA". There was an incident involving a student named Amy Rowley, who was denied a sign language interpreter due to her hearing impairment. The School Board said Amy was ineligible for an interpreter simply because she was getting good grades. -

This act is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This act guarantees an equal opportunity for employment for individuals that have a disability. It also supports students with disabilities buy protecting them so they can't be discriminated against in school because of the disability they may have. -
Endrew F. Vs. Douglas County School District
In the case of Endrew F. Vs. Douglas County School District, it was argued in court by his parents that Endrew should be reimbursed in the amount of $70,000. Reason being was, while attending the school under the IDEA he was not making progress and since they withdrew him and put him in private school, Endrew has learned and grown tremendously. The school stated that the completed an IEP and gave Endrew the services he required. Because of this it put the school in compliance with the law.
