    Section 504 is a Civil Right Law that prevents discrimination against individuals with disabilities by any institution that receives federal funds and provides for free, appropriate education. It applies to both schools and the workforce.

  • Rowley Court Case

    Rowley Court Case
    The court denied a young girl who was deaf a sign language interpreter because she was making adequate progress in school.
  • Tatro Court Case

    Tatro Court Case
    There is a young girl who has Spina Bifida and was required to be catheterized every several hours. She was denied federal funds. The school had to provide the young girl with a certain procedure dealing with the catheter but they were not held liable.
  • Honig Court Case

    In this court case, there was a student who was acting aggressively because of his disability. He responded to the taunts of a peer by kicking the student and then he kicked out a window while going to the principles office.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    This act mandated that individuals with disabilities should be provided with "reasonable accommodations​" in the workplace, and that such individuals could not be discriminated against. It also included protection​ for individuals enrolled in colleges and universities.
  • Oberti Court Case

    This case dealt with a student who had Down Syndrome. He got placed in a restrictive environment and the court ruled that alternative placement should be considered.
