  • P.A.R.C. v. Pennsylvania

The case of Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was to ensure students are provided an equal education opportunity for all students. P.A.R.C. believed students could benefit from training and education even if they have certain disabilities. The final ruling was with P.A.R.C. No child up to the age of 21 could be denied rights of education of school programs. This supports the needs of students with disabilities because now they had a chance.
  • Board of Education v. Rowley

Amy Rowley was a first grader who was hearing impaired. Her parents wanted her to have a translator to keep excelling in school. The Rowley's lost at due process but appealed to the U.S. District Court. They ended up winning the case. This ruling supported the needs of students with disabilities by allowing students to receive extra help if they need it. The ruling strengthened the IDEA and added more educational benefits for those who are disabled.
  • School Committee of Town of Burlington, Mass. v. Department of Education of Mass.

Michael Panico was placed in private school after not doing so well in public school because of his "special needs". The family wanted to be reimbursed since the public school did not provide him with the necessary help he needed. The final ruling after the Panico's going back to court for a few years, was for the Panico's to not be reimbursed. They realized the town could have done better with placement for Michael. FAPE should be provided for students. Students are allowed reimbursement.
