  • Jamestown Settlement

    Jamestown was named after King, James I. This was the first real settlement in the new land at this time. It really impacted the country as a whole the most, because of it's importance in developing new settlements along with it.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    This war set the British colonists against those of New France. France’s expansion into the Ohio River valley brought repeated conflict with the claims of the British colonies, a series of battles led to the official British declaration of war in 1756. This made a huge impact on the British colonies, for they expanded the land they own greatly.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    The term "Industrial Revolution" refers to the time period when the economy was dominated by industry and machine manufacturing. This time period greatly effected Britain's economy because of how much everything developed over this time period.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. This really effected businesses and individual people a lot considering they now have to pay taxes on every piece of printed paper that they use.
  • Trail of Tears

    As part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy, the Cherokee nation was forced to give up its lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate to an area in present-day Oklahoma. The Cherokee people called this journey the "Trail of Tears," because of its devastating effects. This clearly effected the Indians lives more than anything else considering they were removed from their homes.
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    This war broke out as a result in a long lasting controversy over slavery. It all began shortly after Lincoln was voted in as president. Then seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the U.S. to form the Confederate States of America, or the South. This war lasted a little over four years, and it really changed the lives of everyone living in america at that time. Some were effected more than others considering some families fought against their own family members.
  • World War 1

    World War 1 was known as the first great war that brought most of the worlds great economic powers together. More than seventy million military personnel were brought together in one of the largest wars ever fought. The loss of population to some of these countries were huge considering how many soldiers were drafted from these places. This effected Europe by far the most by having over 60 million military personnel being brought into it.
  • Prohibition

    The prohibition was a nationwide ban on the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcohol that remained in place from 1920 to 1933. This mainly effected the drunks and the businesses that sold alcohol at that time. For a short period of time after all the drunks were cleaned up and looking to better their lives, but then eventually the police began taking bribes and the bars would be allowed to serve alcohol under the counter.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    This war revolved around South Vietnam against North Vietnam. South Vietnam was anti-communism compared to North being pro-communism. This war greatly effected the United States considering it was such a gruesome war and we lost many soldiers involved in it. The war was so devastating to these soldiers that many of the ones that returned home endured lifelong lasting mental health issues.
  • September 11, 2001

    This act of terrorism still devastates Americans today when the anniversary of it comes around. This act killed 2,996 innocent civilians in the north and south towers of the world trade center. This event made a huge impact on the whole United States population. Mostly because after this we began sending many american troops to Afghanistan for a long period of time looking to find and kill the man that conducted this act of terrorism.
