Missouri Compromise
When Missouri was finally admitted to be a state it had to be a slave state, and Maine was admitted at the smae time so it became a free state. This was to keep the balence for non, and slave states. They created a geographical line that separates the North and the South, the slave states (South) and the free states (North). -

Senator Stephan A. Douglas of Illinois decided that congress would vote on these 5 proposals separately and this would end the argument once and for all. -

Kansas- Nebraska Act of 1854
Repealed the Missouri Compromise and allowed settlers of these regions to vote on weather or not to allow slavery in their States. -

Dred Scott Decision
He was a Slave and sued the U.S. for his freedom because he moved from a slave state to a state that was free Supreme court rejected him and it caused strong reactions from the public and dividing the country even more. -
Lincoln/ Douglas Debates
Lincoln opposed slavery and did not want it he was also a Republican and Douglas believed it should be voted on by the public, that it was their chose if they wanted slavery in their state. Lincoln gained national reputation. -
John Brown’s Raid
He was and Abolitionist and led 18 other men to raid an arsenal at Harper’s Ferry, VA to start a rebellion against slave holder, turning brown into a myatar. -
