The Story: The reason I picked this topic..unique social & emotional issues in the class.
3 highly intelligent/perfectionist type students:
"Johnny" couldn't finish tests -high anxiety on essay questions.
"Sammy" classic underachiever would not even start assignments due to the fear of failure. Further disclosure: one of these students was obsessed with symmetry..also wanted "even" grades only, (92, 90, 86, etc.)
"Sally" couldn't work in groups-had to have things her way.."her way or no way". -
Williams Model
Williams (1969) proposed the need to integrate the Cognitive-Intellective with the Affective-Feeling in order to promote creative and higher order thinking skills for students to reach optimal potential. -

Gifted students have a heightened emotional intensity and sensitivity toward societal and social problems. Making a difference is a need for many gifted students. It is a chance for them to use newly acquired skills and knowledge in authentic situations. Often these are open-ended solutions which ignite the creative potential in the gifted student. -
