Great Fire of London
The Great Fire of London swept through the central parts of the English city from Sunday, 2 September to Thursday, 6 September 1666. The fire gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman city wall. It threatened but did not reach the aristocratic district of Westminster, Charles II's Palace of Whitehall, or most of the suburban slums. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er3GKw8Z3R4 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_London -
The beginning of the fire in London.
At 1: 00 am a spark set fire to the straw on the floor of the bakery and started the fire. -
Mayor Thomas Bludworth and his wrong decision
At 4: 00 am Sir Thomas Bloodworth, was woken up. He was advised to have all the neighbouring houses demolished, as this would stop the fire spreading, but the Mayor refused to give the order. He paid dearly for this decision. -
The fire is taking over more and more territories
Over the next three days and nights, the fire raged out of control. It took until the evening of Wednesday, 5th September, when the strong winds finally died down, to bring the fire under control. -
End of the fire and its consequences
When the fire was totally extinguished, five-sixths of the heart of the city had been destroyed. Over 13,000 houses, 87 churches and 4 bridges, along with many important buildings, such as St Paul's Cathedral, were gone. -
Interesting facts
Astonishingly, however, it is thought that fewer than ten people died in the blaze!
The rat carriers of the infection immediately ran away from the city, which caused their extinction. Therefore, after the fire, none of the Londoners about the plague did not remember.
