French and Indian War ends
The war with the Indians ended. The French were in debt now cause the needed to pay the soldiers who fought in the war. -
Stamp Act Passed
The colonist had to pay paper tax. All legal documents, newspapers, etc. were part of this tax. -
Stamp Act Congress
The first gathering of several colonies. It was a talk about how to deal with the taxation that went into placement without their consent. -
Stamp Act Repealed
The Stamp Act was repealed. There were no more tax on the papers. -
Declaratory Act
It gave Parliament absolute power on taxes. They could now tax whatever they want without asking the colonist. -
Townshend Act Passed
This act added more taxes and allowed there to be to kill smugglers without a local jury. This also gave British soldiers the right to search the colonists' household without their consent. -
Townshend Act Repealed
The act was taken away. Though this act was gone the British still wanted to tax the colonist as much as they wanted to. -
Boston Massacre
Many colonists rebelled against the British by rioting in front of the tax building. They were shot down after some time. Many were injured and some died. -
Tea Act Passed
The tea that came from Britain was now taxed. This angered many people since they buy quite a bit of tea. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonist dressed up as Indians and raided a British ship full of tea. They then dumped all that tea into the ocean. -
Coercive Acts
Laws that were meant to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. They were the Boston Tea Act, Quartering Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Government Act. -
First Continental Congress
The first time a major amount of the colonies came together. They wished for their independence. The king denies and this angers the colonists. -
Revolutionary War Begins (1775)
The anger colonist now was using force to gain their independence. Great Britain fought them and it ended up becoming a war for independence. -
Second Continental Congress (1775)
This is now the second time the colonies came together to plan on what to do. They now have a new document for independence. -
Declaration on Independence signed
The document for the colonists' independence was signed by a majority of the colonist. This documented has cut all ties with Britain and made America its own country.
