Sixth Grade
After a few years and around sixth grade, I began to lose interest, mainly because I was more interested in doing what my friends liked. -
Too Much Technology
As time has gone on, I've realized more and more how much time I spend on my phone, especially during summer. Even though I spend a lot of time painting, drawing, and scrapbooking, I can still use my phone most of the time to watch videos. Knitting requires more attention, so this keeps me off of my phone the longest. -
Setting A Goal
In order to fulfill my dream of completing a huge knitting project and my goal of staying off of my phone, I've decided to knit a blanket. "To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work" (Unit 2 iBook 5). Something that is important for me and others to keep in mind when setting a goal is how realistic it actually is. For me, I knew knitting a blanket would be super time consuming. So, I found a pattern that is more within my skill level. -
Measuring Progress
'When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal" (Unit 2 iBook 5). When goals aren't measurable, it's hard for people to stay motivated and can lead to goals being forgotten. To reach my goal, I will be knitting squares that can be sewn into a large blanket. Each day, I hope to knit at least one square of the blanket, which only takes about thirty minutes. -
Reaching My Goal
It's important to have an end date for goals. "With no time frame there's no sense of urgency" (Unit 2 iBook). My goal is to be done with the first large skein of yarn by the end of February. This is because the skeins are expensive. This is the only risk to my goal. By paying attention to how realistic a goal is, measuring progress and having an end date, others can take more steps towards achieving their goal too.
