Start of 1st attempt at Independence
During this year the indians started their first attempt at becoming Independent, this was due to the fact that there had recently been problems with the economy but also because of the new cartidge that was invented in which they had to use cow and pork to use the cartage and since in India Hindus consider the cow sacred and the muslims don't eat cows they were outraged and started an Independence. -
The British take over
In this year there was a turning point in the war in which the british took direct control over india and with this the revolt was over. The British also agreed to let all past agreements stand with states that had remained loyal to Britan during this revolt. -
Indian National Congress
During this year the Indian National Congress was formed. -
Gandhi's Inspiration
Gandhi is thrown off a train because he was told that he would have to travel 3rd class but he refused so the man threw him off the trains. The man did this because he considered Gandhi "colored". -
Muslim League
In this year the Muslim League was created. -
Emprisonment
Gandhi is arrested and sentenced to two months in prison. -
Agreement
Gandhi and Smuts, the Prime Minister of the Transvaal, reach an agreement, ending the protests. -

Gandhi and his followers found Satyagraha ashram, the religiously-oriented communal farm where Gandhi, his family, and his followers will live. -
Indian Return from war
In this year indian came back from WW1 and they were expecting Britan to fulfill the promise they had stated they would fulfill but they did not since when the Indians cam eback they were still treated as second-class citizens. -
Amritsar Massacre
During this year the Amritsar Massacre took place, In this public meeting both Hindus and Muslims were together and they did not know that the government had banned public meetings and so the general at Amritsar thought they were directly violating this rule so he ordered his men to fire at the crowd. -
Public Disobedience
The british government said there was a peaceful revolt in which indians did not fight but they did break the law, the british ruled this as "Publid Disobedience" and they stated that they were doing this to achieve independence. -
Non-Cooperation
Gandhi calls for a period of non-cooperation across India. -
Warning
Gandhi warns the viceroy of his intentions to break the salt law. The viceroy does nothing. -
The Salt March
During this year Gandhi walked all the way to the beach and made his own salt, this was meant to be a symbol which meant that Indians could make salt because it was their land and they did not need the british to do it. -
London Round Table Conference
British government yields to protests, releases all prisoners, invites a Congress representative to Britain for a Round Table Conference to which Gandhi was invited. -
India Act
During 1935 the britich government passed the India Act government which gave the indians local self government and democratic elections but it did not give them total independence. -
India splits
Gandhi visits Muhammed Ali Jinnah in Bombay, but is unable to work out an agreement that will keep India whole. -
Independece
During this time the british government gave both Pakistan and India it's independence. -
Ghandi's Death
This day Gandhi was killed by a Hindu extremist who thought that Gandhi was too protetctive of Muslims. -
Muslim-Hindu conflicts
India dissolves into chaos and killings, as Hindus and Muslims flee for the borders of India and Pakistan.
