Using my cell phone and laptop in class? I remember in highschool, these items were strictly not allowed! Now at my highschool, all students are given an iPad when they begin freshman year, and they use it during their classes. Concerns with this would be students getting off-task, but there are also lots of potential benefits as well. This is happening some now!

  • Rotation Models at the Elementary Level

Some schools, such as Rocketship and Kipp, have been trying out this method. Students rotate to online stations for learning. I have used some of the Kahn Academy videos and practices in my classroom, and the kids seem to love them! • Social Networks for Learning

I never would have thought that my myspace or facebook accounts would be used for learning in the classroom! It is great because it also teaches virtual citizenship and proper use guidelines for students.

  • Digital Portfolios

The use of digital portfolios for college admissions as opposed to SAT/ACT scores. This will encourage more performace based assessment, and provide a more interesting view of college candidates. I would have preferred to be evaluated on a portofilio and not on my SAT test scores! It gives students more of a chance to express themselves creatively.

  • Decrease in paper consumption

"In ten years time, schools will decrease their paper consumption by no less than 90%" from:

Rather than constantly heading to the copy machine to copy worksheets, tests and packets, students will be able to access things online on the computer or tablet/iphone. This will be very convenient as the excuse "I left it at school" will not work as well!
