Fall of Bastille
On July 14, 1789 more than 800 Parisians gathered outside the Bastille (A fort in Paris built in the 14th century and used in the 17th–18th centuries as a state prison ) demanding weapons. A battle erupted and the mob eventually broke in but left the bastille empty handed. This became known as the symbol of the French Revolution -
Royal Family Tries To Escape
King Louis XVI and his family attempt to go to Austria to escape the violence in France, but are recognized and they had to stop their escape at the border and got placed under house arrest for attempting to abandon their country. -
France becomes A Republic
The National Convention was set up, elected by the universal male right to vote to provide a new constitution after the deposition of the King. It first met on September 21 1792 and on the next day proclaimed France a Republic! -
King Louis XVI is killed
After being put on trial in August of 1792, on Januray 17 King Louis XVI was guilty of "conspiracy against liberty." He is killed by guillotine on January 21. -
Reighn of Terror Begins
The most violent part of the French Revolution begins as a massive political battle between the Jacobins and the Girondins. Thousands of people got killed by execution during this time.
