    End of French and Indian War
    Ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris by France, Great Britain and Spain. It gave huge territorial gains in North America. Great Britain then taxed the colonists to help pay their debt, leaving colonists frustrated and angry.

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar act reduced the rate of taxes on molasses but added more foreign goods to be taxed like sugar, wines, and coffee. The result caused disruption to the colonial economy by reducing the markets to which colonies could sell and the amount of currency available to purchase British goods.

    Stamp Act
    A tax directly on American colonist by the British parliament which imposed a tax on all paper documents. Colonist insisted the act was unconstitutional and used mob violence to intimidate stamp collectors.

    Declaratory Act
    It stated the British Parliament taxing authority was the same in America and Great Britain and repeated the Stamp act. At first colonist didnt get too upset until the Townshed acts of 1787 begam limiting colonial assembly causing much grievance.

    Townshed Act
    A series of measures passed by British Parliament that taxed goods imported to the American Colonies. The colonists saw the acts as an abuse of power, increasing tension between Great Britain and the colonies.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales in the American Colonies. The colonists turned tea ships back to Britain or left it to rot on the docks because they thought the act was to support the tea taxes. This led to the Boston Tea Party.

    The Revolutionary War was an insurrection by American patriots in the 13 colonies to British rule, resulting in American independence. Started because the colonist were frustrated by British rule and were tired of taxation without representation.
