Forrest was born to his single mother with below average intelligence. Despite his faults his mother always told him that they made him no different than anyone else. She loved him very much and raised him with love. As a child he had to wear leg braces but he worked hard and eventually got out of them. He never let anything get in his way. -

The Hippie Movement was a counterculture movement against traditional values. The Hippies were very pro peace and love and very anti-war. Their slogan "Make Love, not War" became famous and was used widely by the Hippies. Smiley face designed by Harvey Ball
The smiley face is made of a yellow ball, 2 black dots for eyes, and a black arc for the smile. Harvey was employed by State Mutual Life Insurance Company of Worcester, Massachusetts to make a smiley face to make the workers happier. Desegregation of schools
On September 10, 1963, 20 African American students entered the previously all white public schools in Birmingham Alabama. Governor Wallace ordered state patrolmen to block the doors of the schools to prevent the black students from getting in. JFK's assassination
Shortly after noon on the 22nd JFK was shot and killed as he rode a motorcade through Deaely Plaza in downtown Dallas Texas. The Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party was a political organization founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. It's first goal was to challenge police brutality against African Americans. At it's peak the Black Panther Party had about 2,000 members. Lieutenant Dan loses his legs
Forrest joined the army to fight in Vietnam. In an attack by the Vietcong, many of the people in Forrest's unit were injured and he brought them to safety. The only one who had permanent effects that lived was Lieutenant Dan. He had both of his legs severely injured and they had to be amputated. -
Forrest received the Presidential medal of honor
On January 1st Forrest received the presidential medal of honor for his time in the war. He earned it for saving the people in his unit and not stopping. -
The Moon Landing
The moon landing was achieved by Apollo 11. After 1 and a half orbits around the Earth they get the "go" to head to the moon. When the lunar module landed on the moon there was only 30 seconds of fuel left. They left an American flag on the moon and a plaque on one of the eagles legs. Watergate Scandal
The Watergate Scandal began with several burglars being arrested, and turned out to be a large scandal involving President Nixon's reelection. Forrest spent New Year's Eve with Lieutenant Dan. Dan got angry and drunk and ended up actually defending Forrest. He agreed to become Forrest's second mate when he got his shrimping boat. -

Hurricane Carmen started as a tropical depression on the 29th. On the 30th the tropical depression intensified into a tropical storm. Then, on the 1st it became Hurricane Carmen, just off the coast of Jamaica. Apple Company Founded

Jenny died
Jenny died on March 22nd 1982. Presumably from HIV (AIDS) although it is never clearly stated in the movie. She was buried under the tree that her and Forrest used to play in and climb.
