  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    During this time, the United States had a policy of containment. The U.S. wanted to contain communism. North Korea was pro-communism while South Korea was not. North Korea invaded South Korea in hopes of spreading communism. The war ended in July 1953 with Korea still divided into two states.
  • Brown vs. BOE

    Brown vs. BOE
    At the end of the Plessy vs. Ferguson supreme court case it was decided that segregation was fine as long as it was equal. This included public schools. Oliver L. Brown fought the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas to make sure that the black schools would have the same resources and materials as white schools. In the end, Plessy was overturned.
  • The murder of Emmett Till

    The murder of Emmett Till
    Emmett Till was 14 years old when he went to Money, Mississippi to visit relatives. He reportedly flirted with a white woman in a grocery store. Four days later, 2 white men kidnapped Till, beat him and shot him in the head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFEC2kSdX-0
  • The Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War
    The United States wanted to keep communism where it was now and didn't want it to spread which is called containment. North Vietnam was communism and South Vietnam was democratic.   • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    The bus boycott was the initial spark to the Civil Rights movement after WW2. Rosa Parks sat in the whites section on a bus. She refused to give up her seat to a white person.   • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Nine brave children risked their lives to attend Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. The African American students were prevented from entering the school by the Governor of Arkansas. They were then able to enter the school after the intervention of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. They had federal troops escort them to and from school as well individual soldiers with them in the halls of the school. Unfortunately, in the classrooms, bathrooms, and gym locker rooms, they were harassed.
  • Kennedy's Assassination

    Kennedy's Assassination
    John F. Kennedy was assassinated in an open-top convertible while traveling through Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots, wounding President Kennedy and injuring Governor Connally. President Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU83R7rpXQY
  • Lyndon B. Johnson becomes President

    Lyndon B. Johnson becomes President
    After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, LBJ was sworn into presidency on Air Force One. LBJ finished off Kennedy's plans. He quickly pursued one of Kennedy's primary goal, a tax cut.
  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    During the Vietnam War, a company of American soldiers brutally killed the majority of the population of My Lai. It's believed that as many as 500 people, including women, children, and the elderly were killed. Higher-ranking U.S. Army officers managed to cover up the events of that day for a year.   • The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy

    The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy
    Robert Kennedy won the California an South Dakota primary elections for the Democratic nomination for Presidency of the United States. Shortly after, he was shot while exiting the hotel kitchen. He was pronounced dead 26 hours later in the Good Samaritan Hospital.
  • First Man on the Moon

    First Man on the Moon
    Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed two Americans on the Moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle. Armstrong was the first to step onto the moon.     Hurricane Carmen

    This was the worst hurricane in the 1974 Atlantic hurricane season. Carmen struck the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico as a category 4 hurricane. This hurricane caused 100,000 people to leave heir homes and seek shelter.
