The US entered the Vietnam war to help South Vietnam. We primarily joined because we didn't want Vietnam to fall to communism (North Vietnam). The US later left the war after signing the Paris Peace Accords. -

Muhammad Ali Refuses Army Induction
Muhammad Ali was supposed to be drafted into the Army, but he refused. His reason he shouldn't join is becuase of religious beliefs. After his decision, he was convicted of Army evasion and sentenced to 5 years in federal prison. He also was banned from boxing for 3 years, stripped of his heavyweight title and had to pay a fine of $100,000. His conviction wa shortly appealed by the US Supreme Court. -
Assassination of Bobby Kennedy
During the 1968 Primary Presidential election in California, Robert Kennedy claimed victory for the Democrats. He was shot while walking throught the kitchen of the Ambassaador Hotel by Sirhan Sirhan. He shortly died 26 hours later at the Good Samaritan Hospital. -
Apollo 11
This was the first spaceship to carry humans into space. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrid were the first two people on the moon. The spaceship landed on the moon on July 20th, but the first person to step onto the moon was on July 21st. -

Watergate Scandal
President Nixon's "plumbers" were arrested at 2:30 AM at the Watergate office complex. They were convicted guilty and then it was found that Pres. Nixon ordered them to do the dirty work. He later resigned on August 9th of 1974 after being named as a co-conspirator on March 1st, 1974. -
Hurricane Carmen
Hurricane Carmen was the most intense hurricane during the 1974 hurricane season. It should have hit New Orleans, but it switched routes and headed weast towards Southern Lousiana and Texas. Because of it being so intense, the name was "retired" from being used as a hurricane name ever again. -
John Lennon Assassination
John Lennon was assassinated in front of the building he lived at. He was shot by Mark David Chapman and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He had his body cremated, but his wife didn't hold a funeral for his death -
Reaganomics
Reaganomics was an economic style created by Ronald Reagan. He believed that f you invest into the wealthy 1 percent, the money will trickle down to the middle and lower class. His theory did not work because it increased the debt of the US.
