The Revolutionary War was a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen British colonies. Colonists overthrew British rule and formed a contitnental army. -
Declaration of Independence
Announced that the thirteen American Colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent states. It was orginally composed by Thomas Jefferson and later ratified by Congess. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was the first written constitution or plan of government of the United States of America. It was also unsuccessful and eventually failed. -
Shay's Rebellion
Revolutionary War soldiers have an uprising. It consisted of poor farmers who were crushed by heavy taxes and debts. It opened the government's eyes to the fact that something needed to be done. -
Contitutional Convention
A convention held in Philadelphia in hopes to revise the Articles of Confederation. They later decided that they needed an entirely new document to fix the problems of the last. -
Constitutional Convention 2
The last meeting held of the constitutional convention, it was also the day the founding fathers signed the Constitution of the United States of America. -
Ratification of the Constitution
Before the Constitution could be adopted by the American people 9 out of the 13 states had to ratify the document. All 13 states would eventually agree to ratify the Constitution. -
Bill of Rights Ratification
Virginia became the 10th of 14 states to approve 10 of the 12 amendments. This gave the Bill of Rights the 2/3 majority needed to make it legal.
