Vietnam War Begins
America's first "living room war." This name was given to Vietnam due to the fact that televised reports and live footage of the conflict could be viewed directly from one's home television. The war, as a result of the footage and images of war, became unpopular at best with the Americane public. The release of the Pentagon Papers only strengthened America's desire to not get involved in the Vietnam War.

Break-in at Watergate
The break-in led to a major scandal involving President Nixon's administration. A direct result of the scandal was the resignation of Richard Nixon and the deterioration of the public's opinion of the government. This could be considered the driving factor of conspiracy theories concerning the government.
