Brown v. Board of Education
an 1896 Supreme Court ruling deemed it legal for segregation in school systems. This court case consisted of 12 plantiffs led by welder and part time pastor Oliver Brown. Browns Kid specifically had to travel marginally farther than any white child just to get to her lower class school for blacks. Brown argued that this affected the childresn learning. The court ruling over turned Plessy v. Feurgeson and made segregation in school systems unconstitutional. -

The Greensboro Lunch Counter sit-ins was a form of civil disobedience that started a wave across the nation. On February 1st 1960 a group of local students went to their local diner that often refused service to negros and sat at the counters for lenghts of times even through their lack of service and sometimes violence that stirred as a result. Many Sit-ins led to a change of heart for food establishments. -
Kennedy Elected President
President Kennedy won the election in 1960 but a slim margin in terms of the popular vote but destroyed the electorial votes. President Kennedy was a young attractive fresh face. His presidency was the first to be very public. This feeling of knowing their leader gave americans a great sense of security and comfort in their government. Bay of Pigs was a failed millitary invasion carried out by U.S troops. Due to Cold War fear and tensions the US made an attempt to wipe out any threats that would come from Cuba. After the invasion where troops made no impact came back stronger and empowered their Leader Fidel Castro. Often considered the closest the world has come to a nuclear conflict the Cuban Missile Crisis was the height of Cold War Tensions. Soviet backed Cuban forces stationed many ballistic missiles in range and aimed at us hot spots. Discussions between powers ensued. President Nixon was a very shady figure. The Watergate Scandal was a strong example. The watergate complex was a temporary home to the Democratic National Comitee. Five burglarers were caught robbing the room of the comitee. It was showed that the money being taken was to fund President Nixons political needs. Nixon was directly related. He was never charged with anything nor impeached but quickly made history by being the first ever President to resign while in office. -

Carmen was the fiercest storm of the 74' storm season. Also one of the fiercest of its time. Carmen was a catagory 4 hurricane and destroyed the livlihood of many americans. Mostly in the form of sea businesses such as shrimping and fishing industries. As shown in Forrest Gump, any survivors of this disaster would become immensily rich in their respective industries due to the mass destruction and wipeage of businsses in the sea industry.
