FDA issued final regulations for the Nutrition Facts label on January 6, 1993. -
Dietary Supplementary Health and Education Act
FDA was required by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 to also establish nutrition labeling requirements for dietary supplements. -
Became Effective
The rule was effective on May 8, 1994. -
Published
These were published in 1997 and became effective in 1999. -
Trans Fat
Addition of trans fat to the list of required nutrients on food label, effective in 2006. -
Labeling Requirements for Restaurants
March 23, 2010, directs the FDA to establish labeling requirements for restaurants, similar to retail food establishments and vending machines. -
Proposed Regulations
The FDA issued proposed regulations on April 6, 2011, but they have not yet been finalized. -
