School meals were introduced, the meat inspection act was passed, and the Gould Admendment requried that food package contents must be marked on the outside of the package in terms of weight, measure or numerical count. -

Vitamin D was added to milk, the Supreme Court ruled that in order for bleached flour with nitrite residues to be banned from foods the government has to show how it harms humans. -
Food Developments from the 1920's- 1930's
First Food Standards issed canned tomatoes, tomato puree, and tomato paste. The Food and Drug Act condemns every statement on a product's label that may mislead. FDA standards of quality for canned foods is authorized. -
Food Developments from the 1960's- 1970's
The Color Additive Amendment required manufactures to establish the safety of color additives in food. The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act required all companies to be honest and informatively label packages. FDA begins Sanitation programs for milk, shellfish and food service. -
Food Developments from the 1980's- 1990's
After botulism outbreaks, low acid food processing regulations were issued. The Infant Formula Act was established to ensure necessary nutritional content and saftey. The Nutrition Labeling and Education Act required all packaged foods to have nutrition labeling.
