  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
I selected Brown v. Board of Education because it was the first step in history that stopped segregation in the public education system. This ruling brought awareness to society about the importance of equal educational opportunity. It taught the world that we have a moral and legal obligation to protect our children, and that depriving children education based on their race is unacceptable.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act
This act is important to me because of its focus on supporting children from economically disadvantaged homes. Children in poverty often do not have access to early childhood education. Programs like the Abecedarian have shown that high quality early child care promotes academic achievement and good health. This will benefit our future, and the future of the students we educate.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Act

    Individuals with Disabilities Act
I chose this act because it was an important movement that provided children with disabilities a right to have a successful education. It focused on services that should be available to support individuals and promoted a safe learning environment. It challenged teachers to provide an education by adjusting their curriculum, and make accommodations that would support individuals with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
I selected this act because it was the first that held states, districts, and schools accountable for student success. It provided students with equal opportunity and collected data which would show the progress of the students in our educational system. I think that's important because we have to ensure the academic support and achievement for the students we serve.
  • The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
When President Obama signed this policy he put an emphasis on education by making sure our nation was financially supporting our public education systems. Today a lot of schools don't reach their fullest potentials due to the lack of funding, and program cuts. In return students are not fully able to reach their full potentials. This policy gave way to grants, and financial support that would improve the public school system, and student achievement.
