Day 1
-Start with students finding their names on their desks
-students get settled and announcements start
-Introduce myself (ppt) and allow time for questions
-co-create classroom rules and expectations
-post on the wall
-go over some school wide rules (safety procedures, hallway procedure, lunch room)
-getting to know you activity
-discuss what makes a good teacher and student (group chart paper activity)
-discuss home procedures and pack up
-letter goes home to parents introducing myself -
Day 2
-practice entering the room procedure
-daily routines (discuss and practice)
-revisit rules
-getting to know you activity
-discuss expectations and consequences -
Day 3
-talk about classroom goals and reward system
-discuss classroom procedures for group and independent work, practice these
-discuss any school wide rules/procedures still uncovered
-talk about classroom procedures for washroom
-talk about or co-create with students visual cues
-discuss the topic of respect and active listening
-ask if any student wants to share about their summer (allow time for 3-5 students)
-evaluate if respectful behaviour and listening was had -
Day 4
-revisit rules and expectations
-sign classroom contract
-evaluate if the teacher and students are meeting expectations
-invite more students to share (3-5)
-re-evaluate respectful listening and active listening
-letter home to parents informing of our class expectations agreed upon
-getting to know you activity
-ask students to pull together a ppt or bag of items (max. 3) sharing with their classmates who they are for the following week
-practice end of day routines again
