Prince Henry the Navigator
Price Hnery the Navigator discovered a way to navigate down the coast of Africa. He sailed the Madeira Islands while navigating this coast. Some of these islands included, Cape Bojador, Cape Blanc, Cape Vert, the Gambia River, and Cape Palmas. -

Ming Dynasty and Exploration
Zheng He led seven ocean expeditions for the Ming Emperor. He travled from China to Southeast Asia and India. He also traveled on India's southeast coast that had many different trading sites. -

King Manuel I assembled the 4th Portugese India Armada. He put it under the command of Vasco da Gama and Gama made his second trip to India. -

He conquered the Goa of Meleka on the Malay Peninsula. His goal was to conquer all the major trade routes and build fortresses with settled populations. -

Ferdinand Magellan
He set out for Spain with five ships to discover a western sea route to the Spice Islands. He discoverd the Strait of Magellan and became the first European to cross the Pacific Ocean. -

Spain and the Philippines
This year started what is known as the Spainsh Colonial Time. The Spainsh wanted to conquer the Philippines. They wanted to spread catholicism and build a trading empire. -

Magellan's Expedtion
Magellan and his five ships arrived in Spain in 1522. That completed the first circumnavigation of the world. It took over a year to travel the world and most of the people on the ship suffered from starvation, scurvy, and harassment. -

The first Portuguese ship was shipwrecked to Japan in 1543 and were introduced to Christianity six years later. Feudal lords called the daimyo welcomed the Portuguese to promote trade and Christianity. -
The Happy Return
After more than a years of absense in Portugal the Dutch reterned to the Netherlands. The conquered all of the Portuguese land and retrned with a lot of wealth. -
The Dutch East India Company
In 1602, The Dutch government granted a 21-year monopoly on spice trade. It is considered to be the first multinational corporation in the world and it was the first company to issue stock. -
Japenese Ban Western Merchants
In 1638 the Tokugawa had barred all western merchants. Also the Tokugawa also ended foreign trade.
