    The proclamation that declared all slaves to be free.
  • 15th Amendment Passed

    The 15th Amendment was passed that granted African American men the right to vote.
  • Gilded Age

    A time in which wealthy became richer and the poor became poorer. The wealth gap became insanely high as the United States became an economic powerhouse.
  • Haymarket Riot

    Haymarket Riot
    During a peaceful worker protest for an 8-hour work day, a bomb was thrown and nearby policemen decided to start shooting. 7 policemen were killed and 60 were injured.
  • Jim Crow laws are passed

    Jim Crow laws are passed
    Laws that allowed for and enforced racial segregation. These laws were passed in many southern states.
  • Homestead Strike

    Homestead Strike
    A very big and brutal labor strike occurred at the Carnegie Steel Company. Workers wages were cut and rights were being taken, causing a protest that eventually led into a violent battle.
  • Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike was a railroad boycott that disrupted railroad traffic for two months. Workers were underpaid and overworked, so many decided to walk off the job.
