Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He built the Republican Party into a strong national organization. In 1863 President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, so that all the slaves residing in a state that was rebelling against the Union, would be set free. He was assassinated on April 14, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth. -
Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson was the 17th president of the United States. He was Lincolns Vice President until Lincoln was shot. He reconstructed most of the Southern states. The 14th Amendment was passed while bringing the South off their knees. It stated that no state should deprive anyu person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. He served one full term in office. -
Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th president of the United States. He was a general for the Union army and was very successful, however he did not know how to be an effective president. A lot of people complained that Grant did literally nothing in office. He still served two full terms. -
James A. Garfield
James A. Garfield was the 20th president of the United States. He looked to strengthen the federal authority over the New York customs house. He was assassinated on July 2, 1881. -
William McKinley
William McKinley was the 25th president of the United States. He sought to liberate Cuba from Mexico. In April of 1998 he declared war on Mexico. The battle lasted only one hundred days in which the American army defeated the Spanish and freed Cuba. He served one dfull term in office. -
Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States. After President McKinley's death, Roosevelt took charge. He led the nation towards a new progressive reform and a strong foreign policy. He served two full terms in office. -
William Howard Taft
William Howard Taft was the 27th president of the United States. Roosevelt believed he would be a grest successor as president. However Taft had different ideas, he did not follow Lincolns methods and was not reelected because Roosevelt nominated another canddidate the split the party. -
Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson was the 28th president of the United States. He passed the Federal Reserve act which provided the nation with the more elastic money it needed. He served two full terms in office. -
Warren G. Harding
Warren G. Harding was the 29th president of the United States. His time in office was scandalous and unbeneficial for the country. In August of 1923 he died of a heart attack. -
Calvin Coolidge
Calvin Coolidge was the 30th president of the United States. He took over as president after Hardings death. Coolidge cut taxes which allowed for the nations economy to prosper and put out farmers aid. He also isolated foreign policy.
