    This was the era where the nation transformed from agricultural to industrial. During this time span, products went from being hand made to being made by machines. Before everything was made by hand using tools and manual labor, now everything is done by machines which makes production faster and more efficient. The only problem was that now with the machines tons of people were left without jobs.

    The first working automatic dishwasher was invented by Josephine Garis. Her dishwasher was a wooden tub with a wire basket in it. The dishes went in the basket, and rollers rotated the dishes. As a handle on the tub was turned, hot, soapy water was sprayed into the tub cleaning the dishes

    The Imperialism Era

    Imperialism is the policy in which stronger nations extend their control over weaker territories. Exceptionalism, which is the belif of superiority of a country, was big during this era. During this era, America would go to other countries, pushing their government onto weaker countries. Some of the countries were reluctant, while others were not so much. With this exceptionalism America had brought on many wars and battles throughout the ages.

    The Progressive Era

    Progressivism is the idea of identifying society's problems and finding solutions to them. Though, people pushed back on this idea due to its high cost and the fact that you would not get elected if you got rid of corruption. There were many acts brought into action during this era such as the Sherman Anti-Trust Act which got rid of monopolies due to their businesses getting too powerful. Another example happened after Uptin Sinclair's book, "The Jungle" which was the Pure Food and Drug Act.

    This act prevented manufacturers from selling tainted food and medicine. All work areas where food and drugs were created/produced must be clean, ensuring the safety of the consumer. It was the first of series of laws protecting consumers, it also led to the creation of the FDA, or Food and Drug Administration.

    The Roaring Twenties

    The 1920s was an age of drastic changes socially and politically. There was an economic growth, giving citizens more spending money. Because of this credit came out with the saying buy now and pay later. Now all citizens were able to buy the new and time saving appliances, but with little understanding of credit the citizens fell into debt. This era also brought changes in women, who now had rights and were able to do things only men were allowed to do before, such as paying jobs and much more!

    On the tenth of Augest 1920, the nineteenth amendment was passed giving women the right to vote. Before this women were treated as second class citizens, but with a new era great things came for women.

    The Great Depression

    Due to the little knowledge on credit, citizens fell into debt which lead to the Great Depression. There were four main causes to the depression which included stock market problems, heavy investing and speculation, margin buying and market crashes. This worldwide economic crash had many characteristics including high unemployment, lower prices, less consumer spending/less business profit, and less demands for products. Luckily for America we had a positive, optimistic president, Roosevelt.

    Theodore Roosevelt was the president during the Great Depression and he was a good leader. With his optimism and positive attitude, he gave America a sense of hope that good things will come. With his words of encouragement, Roosevelt led America through times where most would lose faith, but not him.

    In World War II, we deal with Fascism, Communism and Nazism. Fascism is a belif in strong nationalism and a strong leader. Communism is a political system usually established by a violent revolution which is based upon 1 party rule and equality of all citizens. Nazism is a belif in a strong leader and racial purity. Nazism was established in Germany and what America was up against. During the war there were shortages including food, silk, metals, ect. There were rations due to the shortages.

    The Cold War

    The Cold War was used to refer to the relationship between the USA and the USSR after World War II. The Cold War dominated international affairs for over three decades which caused many major crises such as the Cuban Misile Crisis, Vietnam, Hungarian Uprising, and the Berlin Wall. There was also massive growth in weapons which threatened the entire world. The only thing keeping everyone safe was MAD, or Mutally Assured Destruction.

    The dramatic increase in the number of births from 1946 to 1964 in the United States is called the Baby Boom. It was caused by young males who, upon returning to the United States from tours of duty overseas during World War II began families. This brought about a significant number of new children into the world.

    The Fifties

    The 1950's was after the war and times were changing for the better. Teenagers had more leisure time due to the war being over and there was no need to work anymore. Though not everything was perfect, a lot of people faced challenges such as no insurance for the soldiers and their famlies, but to solve this the government created insurance that would last a year. Also some soldiers lost there homes so assembly lines helped buil them. There was also the rise in automobile sales and the baby boom.

    Civil Rights Era

    This was a mass protest movement against racial segreagation and discrimination. After the Civil War, African Americans were granted the basic civil rights, though there was a hard time enforcing them. Public places were racially segregated and many events such as the Rosa Parks Montgomery bus boycott were prime examples. Events like this created a domino effect until racial equality was met.

    Vietnam

    Vietnam was a French colony since the late 1800's. In the 1930's, Ho Chi Minh organized an independent movement. During World War II, Japan tooki over Vietnam and Minh responds by organizing a resitance against them. After WW II France tries to take over Vietnam and Ho tries to take over the south forms of the Vietcong.

    In the Rosa Parks Montgomery bus boycott, Parks was convicted of violating segregation laws after refusing to give up her seat to a white man. She is considered the First Lady of the civil rights movement and an inspiration to many.

    The Vietcong was a political organization and army in South Vietnam and Cambodia that fought the United States and South Vietnamese governments during the Vietnam War, and emerged on the winning side.

    The communist government built a wall separating East and West Berlin. The wall was built to keep out fascists from entering Germany. Though all it did was separate families communist government built a wall separating East and West Berlin. The wall was built to keep out fastest, friends, and kept some from their jobs. It stood until 1989 when the communist leader said that they were allowed to come and go as they please.
