Monasticism was a new movement that began with the spread of Christianity. Antony, a holy man in Egypt, sold all of his worldly possessions to imitate the life of Christ. The movement focused on self-denial and was very popular in early Christianity. -

Constantine became a Christian almost immediately and gave more power to head church officials. Created the role of the Pope. -

The Fall of the Roman Empire
Right before the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity spread the most. This birthed one of the world's greatest religions. Constantine, the Emporer had a large impact on the spread. -

Orthodoxy, meaning correct belief, was hard to create in Christianity because there was no large authority figure. Also since it was so new and spreading so quickly through many languages, it was hard to keep everything the same. The Holy Trinity was introduced by theologians and created a stance for believers to all believe in. -

The Roman Catholics were the main church until the Protestant Reformation. At the head of this church was the Pope who was originally appointed by Constantine. There were times when multiple popes were vying for power. -

The Protestant Reformation exposed the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and started other denominations. We still can see the reformation today in the denominations that we choose from. -

Martin Luther
Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation by exposing the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church in his 95 theses that he posted on the door. This idea spread and became popular starting the Reformation.
