  • First Trimester-First Month

    The baby is a zygote. it grows into a blastocyst and then into an embryo. first signs of the baby's heart, lungs, face, arms, and legs show. heart begins to beat, baby's brain and spinal cord develop. ears and eyes begin to form, by the months end the baby becomes an embryo an is 1/2 an inch long and weighs much less than 1-ounce.

    Second Month
    Body organs continue to develop. liver and stomach start to work. brain grows, and directs the baby's movement. arms and legs take shape. fingers and toes start to develop. wrist, elbows, hands, knees, and feet are present. eyes take color but are sealed shut. ears, noes, and mouth take shape. at the months end the embryo is 1-inch long and weighs 1/3 ounce.
  • Third Month

    Third Month
    Baby is now a fetus. bones are growing. kidneys are working. fetus cannot be felt b the mother yet. tooth sockets and buds for teeth start to appear in the jawbone. fingerprints appear. all of the baby's body are formed by the end of the month. at the end of the month the baby is 4-inches long and weighs one ounce.

    Second Trimester-Forth Month
    Baby's airways develop. skin is transparent and thin, fingernails appear. baby sleeps and awakens. by the end of the month the mother my feel movements from the baby kicking. placenta is now formed. umbilical cord grows and thickens to carry enough blood to nourish the baby. by the end of the month the baby is 6- to 7-inches long and weighs about 5 ounces.
  • Fifth Month

    Fifth Month
    the baby's organs continue to grow. blood supply in the lungs increase. eyelashes, eyebrows, and scalp hair appear. silky body hair and a waxy coating protect the baby's skin from its watery surroundings. baby sleeps and wakes in a pattern. the baby turns from side to side and kicks a lot. by the months end the baby is 12-inches long and weighs about 1 pound.
  • Sixth Month

    Sixth Month
    Baby's growth speeds up. baby opens and closes its eyes and can hear sounds. skin is red wrinkly, and oily. baby kicks, stretches, and sucks its thumb. AT months end, the baby is 12- to 14-inches long and weighs about 1 1/2 pounds.
  • Third Trimester-Seventh Month

    Third Trimester-Seventh Month
    Baby's brain and nerves system become more mature. Bones are developed, but are soft and flexible. and they began to harden. skin is wrinkled and covered with a thick, white protective coating called vermix. Fatty tissue begins developing under the surface. lungs have matured and can be supported outside the uterus. parts of the baby can be seen outside of the mothers stomach. at the months end the baby is about 15-inches long and weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.
  • Eighth Month

    Eighth Month
    Rapid brain growth continues. Skin is no longer wrinkled due to the layer of fatty tissue. the skin color is now pink not red. baby has less room to move around but still kicks a lot. baby may position itself head-down in the uterus. at the months end the baby will be about 18-inches and weigh about 5 pounds.
  • Final Month- Ninth Month

    Final Month- Ninth Month
    Baby gains about 1/2 pound each week. Lungs are mature. Downy hair covered the skin disappears. the baby moves into final position- usually head down and stays there until birth. at birth babies are on average of 19- to 21-inches long and weigh an average of 6 to 9 pounds.
