    week 1
    The uterus is thickening in preparation for pregnancy. The fetus is about the size of a penny. The tail attached to the fetus has become separate and the head is still large compared to the body.

    week 2
    The egg has become fertilized and now imbeds itself in the walls of the uterus. Light spotting may occur as a result of the egg embedding itself in the uterine wall.
  • week 3

    week 3
    the sprem and egg cells have conjoined to one cell. that one cell now begins the development process. the cell will soon start to split in multiple cells forming the baby's genes and physical traits.
  • week 4

    week 4
    Amniotic fluid begins to surround the fetus to protect it during the development process. Yolk sac will also form to feed the fetus in the first few weeks of development. The cell begins to split to start developing physical characteristics.

    week 5
    Tubes began to link up to multiple areas of the fetus to begin development of the limbs, brain, spinal cord and heart. Pregnancy symptoms begin to arise at week 5.

    week 6
    At this point the baby's heart begins to faintly beat. The eyes and ears begin to develop. The fetus is still in a tadpole like shape at this stage.
  • week 7

    During this week, the fetus' vital organs such as the heart, liver, kidney etc.... begin the form. Little round nubs at the ends of the limbs will begin to form into the baby's hands and feet.

    week 8
    By week 8 the pregnancy stage has changed from embryo to an official fetus. The fetus' facial structures begin to appear as the baby starts to take on a more human like shape.
  • week 9

    week 9
    The tadpole tail is now replaced by a pair of tiny legs. The baby begins to become more proportional, specifically the rest of the body begins the catch up with the head.
  • week 10

    week 10
    The webbing between the fingers and toes are now gone. The baby's facial characteristics are now definitive with eyes, ears, mouth and nose. The baby's brain also begins to take shape.
  • week 11

    week 11
    At this time the baby's finger and toe nails begin to grow. Also the pupils start to form to control the amount of light entering the eye. The baby is still only about 2 inches in length from head to toe.
  • week 12

    week 12
    week 12 marks the end of the first trimester. The baby now has fingers along with nails. The baby now looks like a human. More organs begin to develop such as the kidney.
  • week 13

    week 13
    The baby becomes large enough to form the bump in the mother's belly. The placenta continues to feed the fetus the nutrients that it needs to grow. The head now only makes up 1/3 of the baby's entire body.
  • week 14

    week 14
    A fur like hair is covering the entire fetus in order to keep it warm in the mother's womb. By this time the baby's fingerprints are forming on the thumbs.
  • week 15

    week 15
    The baby's skin is thin enough to were it could be see through. Veins can be seen forming throughout the body along with muscle growth in the limbs and face.
  • week 16

    week 16
    The blood volume in the mother's body has significantly gone up in order to support the fetus' rapid growth. The baby is also beginning to suck his/her developing thumb.
  • week 17

    week 17
    The lungs begin to breathe in amniotic fluid and the urine is collecting urine. The eyebrows, eyelashes and other hairs are growing around the fetus' body.
  • week 18

    week 18
    The ears have now developed enough to hear the mother's voice. The fetus is now large enough to cause discomfort in the mother's womb. The baby has grown almost 6 inches in length.
  • week 19

    week 19
    A waxy substance forms around the fetus to protect it from the amniotic fluid in the womb. Fat begins to form under the baby's skin to provide warmth within the baby's body. The baby's hair also grows at a rapid rate.
  • week 20

    week 20
    The baby is now at the half way mark of development. The baby is now able to hear and recognize the mother's voice. The baby now measures up to 7 inches in length.
  • week 21

    week 21
    The gums are formed along with small tooth nubs growing in. The intestines begin to grow and start functioning. bone marrow also rapidly producing red blood cells to transport oxygen around the baby's body.
  • week 22

    week 22
    Hormones begin to form in order to give signals and messages to the body's organs. The baby's five senses also start to develop. By this time the baby's reproductive organs grow.
  • week 23

    week 23
    The organs and brain continue to advance in the baby's body. The lungs continue to inhale amniotic fluid and are now beginning to expand in order to inhale oxygen.
  • week 24

    week 24
    The wrinkly skin starts to smooth out as the baby passes a length of one foot and a weight of over a pound. Fingernails are now fully present.
  • week 25

    week 25
    The baby continues to gain in weight as the skin becomes see through. The heart rate also becomes more audible as it beats become faster and faster.
  • week 26

    week 26
    Not much has changed since the past week, however the baby's eyelids have opened for the first time. It is very likely the baby would react to any light near the mother's belly.
  • week 27

    week 27
    The vital organs continue to develop as the baby enters the third and final trimester. The baby has now formed a sleep cycle of times of being awake and times of sleep.
  • week 28

    week 28
    As the baby passes two pounds in weight he/she is now able to do many things inside the mother's womb. The baby is now able to cough, blink and even hiccup.
  • week 29

    week 29
    The baby's movements become increasingly notable in the mother's womb. Muscle and bones become stronger and stronger with every day that passes. The baby is also becoming more aware of light and sound outside of the womb.
  • week 30

    week 30
    for the baby not much has changed since the previous week, however the mother's body is growing to compensate for the young baby's growth. the stomach stretches parallel to the baby's growth.
  • week 31

    week 31
    The baby continues to gain weight as there is only 9 weeks left till time of birth. The lungs are still growing in order to inhale the appropriate amount of oxygen.
  • week 32

    week 32
    The fur like hair is now falling off and only the eyebrows and eyelashes remain. The baby now weighs four pounds. Even though space in the womb is limited the baby still manages to move around.
  • week 33

    week 33
    With the exception for the skull, the little bones in the baby's body begin to harden in order to support the baby's structure. The bones in the skull will stay soft to allow for movement out of the birthing canal and to allow for brain development.
  • week 34

    week 34
    Most of the major organs and systems are very close to working on their own. At about this time the baby may already be in position for delivery.
  • week 35

    week 35
    The skeletal, respiratory and muscular systems are all fully developed and working. The baby has moved down towards the pelvis in preparation for delivery.
  • week 36

    week 36
    With just a few weeks to go the lungs have fully developed and are ready to inhale oxygen once the baby is born. The digestive system is also fully formed and ready to digest the food the baby will intake.
  • week 37

    week 37
    By this stage the baby's immune system is up and running ready for the outside world. At week 37 the baby is considered almost full size. The baby continues to move further towards the pelvis in preparation for birth.
  • week 38

    week 38
    With only 2 weeks to go the brain has now taken control of almost all of the baby's functions. All other essential organs should be working and preparing for life outside the womb.
  • week 39

    week 39
    Towards the end of pregnancy the baby's growth has dramatically slowed down. There is not much left to be developed in the uterus. The mother will feel a lot more contractions in preparation for labor.
  • week 40

    week 40
    The baby is now fully developed and ready to be delivered. Week 40 marks the end of pregnancy for the mother and the begging parenthood. week should be the week that the parents are able to meet their new born child.
