    Declaration of Independance Signed
    The Declaration was written primerally by Thomas Jefferson and solidified America's choice to become free from the British Empire. Fifty-six congressional delegates sign the declaration. Congress decided to print a copy of the Document and send it to England.
  • Article of Confederation Drafted

    Article of Confederation Drafted
    Written with the intention of being America's government. Had many weaknesses and a new constitution was to be created.
  • New Constitution

    New Constitution
    New constitution began to take shape. Federalists were in full support of a constitution and tried to convince the states to ratify. Anti-federalists argued that a bill of rights was necessary, however the federalists argued it would limit the people's rights instead of protect them. They gave in and the bill of rights was added.

    Federalist Papers

    James Madison writes the Federalist papers to support their position on the new constitution. Federalist 51 explains the importance of checks and balances.
  • Constitution Ratified

    Constitution Ratified
    All 13 Collonies Agree to radify the constitution. Anti-Federalists agreed only if a bill of rights would be added.

    The Federalist Period

    The time period where the Federalist Party were mosly involved. John Adams (federalist) is president March 4, 1797 to March 4, 1801.
    Federalist influence lived on in the Democratic -Republican party (1792)
  • Bill of Rights Added

    Bill of Rights Added
    Federalists promise Bill of Rights would be added. First ten amendments added to the constitution. Amendments went into effect Dec 1791
  • Fall of the Federalists

    Fall of the Federalists
    Federalists begin to decline, they existed in some parts of New England area. However without strong heads they ceased to exist.
