    FDR Birth
    FDR was born on January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York. He most well known for being the 32nd President of the United States. During his time as president, FDR helped end the Great Depression and saw the U.S. through the majority of WWII. FDR was also the U.S.'s longest standing President, in which FDR served 4 terms ("Franklin D. Roosevelt").
  • FDR decides to run for President

    FDR at the beginning of 1932, was just starting his second term as the governor of New York. Having just been elected, FDR had a lot of confidence in his ability to lead. FDR decided that he wanted to do his duty to America and help it through the Great Depression. He wrote a letter to the Democratic Committee declaring his intentions.

    He wanted to create new progressive laws to help and improve the economic status of the America ("The Governor Enters the First Primary Campaign for the Presidential Nomination"). The letter reflects the idea that FDR wants to benefit the U.S. and thinks its his duty to better America.
  • Fireside Chat on the Banking Crisis.

    During the Great Depression, there was extensive fear in the public surrounding banks failing and being unable to protect the public's money. Due to this, many people tried to pull their money out of banks, which in turn cause economical chaos. FDR began his fireside chat to help reinstall the public's trust in banking. He worked with the Federal Treasury to solidify banks and help push banking reform ( “Fireside Chat on the Banking Crisis").

    FDR did his best to reinstitute order within the economy. He wanted to show the people that they could do their part to solve the nation's problems. FDR is saying that the people can help repair the nation.
  • FDR signs the Social Security bill

    In 1935, FDR signed the Social Security Bill, which became a huge part of every U.S. citizen's life. FDR helped create the bill so that future depressions would be much less tragic. The bill was also created to help those most in need ( "Statement of The President upon signing the Social Security bill"). FDR wanted to make living in America more secure. He also wanted to ensure a future for the working class in America.

    During the beginning of 1941, international tensions were at an all time high, with WWII raging in Europe. FDR at the time was also bound to a wheelchair due to contracting polio when he was 39 years old. FDR still managed to find solace while spending time with his housekeepers daughter, Ruthie Bie and his Scottish Terrier, Fala (Suckley, Margaret). The image shows that FDR wasn't afraid to show his disability to family and spend time with them amidst tough political times.

    On December 7, 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. which would almost immediately result in America declaring war on Japan and ultimately entering WWII on two fronts (Roosevelt, Franklin Delano). FDR's address to Congress showed that FDR was determined to get revenge for the surprise attack. FDR demonstrates zero reluctance against to fight Japan and enter the war.
  • Death

    FDR passed away on April 12 1945, just before the end of WWII. He passed away due to cerebral hemorrhage. The stress from being President after 4 terms had taken its toll. He also was President during arguably the toughest time in U.S. history, from the Great Depression all the way through WWII. Although FDR's health was always questionable, no one was prepared for his rapid and sudden decline ("Franklin D. Roosevelt").
