  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    One of the most historical events taken place in the U.S. Supreme Court. This case was held in Topeka, Kansas and it was a landmark case because it was ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional. Later on, the precedent “separate is not equal" was set in stone. Schools were integrated.
  • National Interstate & Defense Act

    When Dwight D. Eisenhower became the 34th President he established this act to promote more efficient trade and travel. By accomplishing this Eisenhower expanded highways to transport military supplies easily, consumer goods, swift movement of troops in the Cold War, and etc.

    1960 Presidential Debate

    This presidential debate of this time period was between Democrat John F. Kennedy and Republican Richard Nixon. By this time televisions were used in households so Americans across the USA were able to watch the debate. JFK wore makeup to avoid looking shiny and sweaty. He was young, fit, and more attractive compared to Nixon. Nixon enhanced unattractive qualities. He was often sweaty since he didn't wear makeup and looked nervous when on tv. JFK ended up winning the debate.
  • Assassination of JFK

    Assassination of JFK
    John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nonmember 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was riding in a convertible limousine with his wife waving to spectators of the streets of Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald was the assassin who shot and killed the president along the motorcade route.
  • Civil Rights Act

    This law outlawed discrimination based on race, color, sex, or religion. Segregation was also not allowed in public locations and these laws continue to resonate in the US.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    In 1964, 2 ships were attacked by North Vietnamese ships in the Gulf of Tonkin. Because of this President Johnson asked Congress to approve military action in Vietnam which was then called The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. This Resolution allowed the president to conduct military operations in Vietnam without a formal declaration of war.

    This is one of the significant political issues because these programs were established in order to end poverty. Some of the things Johnson focused on include: education, medicare, medicaid, the environment, and etc. Most importantly Lyndon B. Johnson was highly ambiguous when it came to reducing poverty and repairing the economy.

    *Assassination of MLK
    This also is 1 of the most significant political related events of this time period. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most prominent civil rights leaders who worked hard to create change and make a difference. He was also an African American Baptist minister who sadly was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. However, because of his diligent work he will forever be remembered and his legacy will continue to live on.
