Hernado de Soto
Hernado de Soto sailed with a milatary expedition from Havana Cuba to the coast of Florida. His soldiers marched northward to the now day Tallahasse, Florida. The spent winter of 1539-1540 here. They then went through Georgia and South Carolina and passed through the western tip of North Carolina. They met the Cherokee Idians who were nice to them. Soto dies on this trip. -

Pedro Menendez de Aviles
Pedro Menendez de Aviles was the leaer of some troops sent from Spain, they were going to Florida. They built St.Augustine, as Jean Ribault planned an attack. Pedro Menendez de Aviles captured Fort Caroline and killed many of the French. -
