    U.S.S Maine was sent to Cuba to protect Americans lives and property after De Lome, the Spanish Ambassador called President McKiney weak and shortly after the Maine stayed in the Hrabor it blew up, killing 258 U.S. sailors and injured many others.

    conflict in 1898 between Spain and the United States, the result of U.S. intervention in the Cuban War of Independence and also the opportunity for the U.S. to demonstrate its naval strength and its awakening of becoming a world power.
