  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Tension had been growing between the colonies and their mother country. A new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. This angered the American colonist.

    Taxation with out representation
    With now so many tax tariffs passed by Parliament the people of the colonies wanted to be represented when passing new tariffs. They made their concerns known to parliament and were rejected. Colonist responded with physical intimidation.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    An angry mob of men crowd the streets and meet with a few redcoats. Furious, many had lost their job and were looking for someone to blame. The red coats are ordered not to shoot at the mob but one of the privates gets badly beaten and fired at the angry mob starting the massacre.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The British Government needed to bail out the East India Trading company and allowed for further taxation on the colonies It called for the taxation of imported goods like tea. Colonist were angered and demanded they be treated as British subjects.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    On this night Samuel Adam's and the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians boarded the ships and threw the tea. In response to the tea act. Were outraged with all the taxes being passed by British Government.
  • Patrick Henry

    Patrick Henry
    Wrote a one of the most famous calls to arms in American history. During a meeting of the Second Virginia Convention at St. John’s Church in Richmond, he gave an impassioned plea urging the Old Dominion to form militias to defend itself against the British. Inspired many to fight against the British.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Red coats entered the city in order to search for arms. (Weapons). When they arrived were met by the militia The British fired first but were forced to treat. This event is known as the " shot heard around the world." Once the redcoats entered the city they found everything had been relocated.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Was a test of the American colonist military although inexperienced the General Howe, leader of the redcoats was loosing the battle. Colonist were ordered not to shoot until they saw the "whites of their eyes". The colonist could have won if they hadn't run out of ammunition and even though they lost the battle it gave them the confidence they needed to keep fighting.
  • George Washington

    George Washington
    One June 19, George Washington is appointed as commander in chief of the Continental Army. John Adams had hoped being a man from Virginia would help the colonies unite. Washington became to be praised by the soldiers who fought with him.
