  • Neutrality Act of 1936

    Neutrality Act of 1936
    A new law supported by Frankiln D. Roosevelt that extended the ban on the sale of arms to nations at war and aslo banned loans to nations at war.
  • Neutrality Act of 1937

    Continued the ban on the sale of arms to nations at war and also required that all nonmilitary supplies had to be bought on a "cash-and-carry" basis meaning if countries wanted to buy something from the US they had to send their own ships to pick it up and take it back
  • Sale of arms to China

    When Japan attacked China in 1937 without declaring war on China Roosevelt claimed the Neutrality Act of 1937 did not apply and started the sale of weapons to China
  • Neutrality Act of 1939

    After Roosevelt asked congress to revise the neutrality laws the passed the Neutrality act of 1939 which permitted the sale of weapons to nations at war on a "cash-and-carry" basis.

    In spring 1940 Britain asked America for old American destroyers to to rebuild it's fleet, Roosevelt found a loophole in the cash requirement by saying as long as there was no purchase involved it didn't count as selling arms so he traded 50 ships for use of British bases in the Atlantic

    After the US froze all assets going to Japan, Japanese military commanders sent two battleships, six aircraft carriers, and other warships to pearl harbor where they conducted a surprise attack on the military base there, after that the US declared war on Japan therefor ending their neutrality in the war.
