The American Revolution
The American Revolution is when the 13 colonies fought the British for independence from the British Empire. The results of this was a new nation's birth called the United States of America. -
Declaration of Independence
A document signed by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia declaring America's independence. -
Louisiana Purchase
The United States bought 828,000,000 square miles of territory from France. This created a world of opportunity for the new country. This also doubled the size of the United States. -
War of 1812
To resolve the War of 1812, the treaty of Ghent was signed on this date. The war was cause by British attempts to restrict US trade, the Royal Navy's impressment of American men at sea, and America's want to expand its territory. The US suffered many defeats, including the capture and burning down of the nation's capital. This war boosted national confidence and created a new spirit of patriotism. This war is known as the "second war of independence". -
American Civil War
The North and South fought a war over slavery that seperated them into the Union and Confederacy. Millions of Americans were injured, and hundreds-thousands were killed.
This effected America because it ended slavery, and the Emancipation Proclimation was signed. -
World War 1
America decleared war against Germany. US troops were planted in France and helped the Allies to victory. More than 50,000 of 10,000,000 American soldiers died.
This effected Ammerica's relationship with Germany. -
Pearl Harbor
Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and 1,000 were injured. This put the United States into World War 2. -
World War II
US Navy attacked German U-boats. They also declared war on Japan.
Life was dramatically changed in the United States. Food, gas, and clothing was hard to find because it was all used for the troops. Women had to have the jobs that men usually had. Japanese-Americans had their rights taken away from them because they were accused of being spies. -
The Bombing of Huroshima and Nagasaki
American B-29 dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city, Hiroshima.
Three days later, B-29 dropped another atomic bomb on Nagaski. Together this killed over 40,000 people. -
MLK Speech
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech infront of the Lincol Memorial to end rasicm in the United States. 250,000 people attented this event.
This effected American history because Martin Luther King Jr. was the first african american to have some sort of power to speak about racism. -
Apollo 11
Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin were the first human astronauts to land on the moon. 6 and a half hours later Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. Neil said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
This effected America because we were known as the first people on the moon. -
9/11 cont.
9/11 effected American Airport securities by making a stronger security. This event made America a closer country and also put fear and realization into our eyes about terrorists. -
9/11
Islamic terrorists hijacked 4 planes (American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, United Airlines Flight 93) that were planned to be crashed into buildings to attack American. Two planes were crashed into the Twin Towers, while another plane was crashed into the Pentagon. The 4th plane was believed to be sent to crash into the White House, but an American passenger bombarded the cockpit and took over the control of the plane. -
Barack Obama
Barack Obama became the first black president of the United State. This changed history for African Americans because they now have full rights as citizens in the U.S.
