    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    Was a surprise attack on the American territory of Honolulu, Hawaii. Major Tactical Victory for the Japanese. This event forced America to enter the war on the side of the allied forces.
  • D-Day Attacks

    D-Day Attacks
    D-Day was the day that allied forces entered Northern France via beach landings. This is the event that began to change the outcome of the war to the allied side.
  • Arms Race

    Arms Race
    The arms race between the US and USSR began shortly after the enola gay dropped the atomic bombs fat man and little boy. Shortly after the war, the two nations, being the two most powerful influences in the world found themselves at moral and political disagreements which quickly grew. The arms race involved mass increase in military personnel, weapon production, and research on destructive weapons such as the H-Bomb developed by the USSR. The arms race was a direct factor of the cold war.
  • Fall of Nazi Germany

    Fall of Nazi Germany
    On April 16th, 1945, soviet troops invaded the capital city of Berlin. The german defense line was quickly picked apart and many high ranking officials fled from the conflict. Fuhrer of the 3rd reich, Adolph Hitler stayed in his Fuhrerbunker until he committed suicide on April 30th, with his wife Eva Braun who he had married less than two days before hand in that very bunker. Nazi Germany officially surrendered on May 8th, 1945.

    Nagasaki and Hiroshima Bombings
    The bombings took place on August 6th and 9th 1945 in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The bombs in question were atomic bombs nicknamed fat man and little boy. Fat man killing approximately 150,000 people and little boy killing 80,000, within a span of 4 months after their detonation. This marked the end of the war on the pacific but also introduced nuclear warfare to the world.

    While many consider the end of the war as May 8th, 1945, the official peace signing and cease fire order came on September 2nd, a few days after Japan was hit by the atomic bombs. This event began to change the way people portrayed women, and people of a different ethnic background.

    The Korean war was fought between north and south korea with no winner. Currently, the war is technically still going on, however, there has been no major conflicts since 1953. North korea was backed by communist China while south korea was backed by the US.

    Civil Rights Movement
    The civil rights movement was filled with a series of events that brought equality to african americans and other minorities such as the native americans and mexican americans. It was filled with peaceful protests and boycotts and also indirectly began to remove the KKK from popularity due to its radical actions against the movement.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist and key player in the civil rights movement of the 1950's and 60's. He believed in peaceful demonstrations and equality of all people. After he was assassinated in 1968, a brief storm of riots occurred before his peaceful ideals were remembered and enacted out of respect.

    The Vietnam war occurred due to the increased tensions between the north and south vietnam governments. The US funded south vietnam with supplies while the USSR funded north vietnam. US troops officially came to aid South Vietnam on March 8th, 1965.

    The montgomery bus boycott was a series of events in which african americans refused to take segregated busses to their destinations. This event lasted a year and greatly crippled the transportation industry in montgomery. It had a great impact on other communities and kickstarted boycotts across the nation.

    The space race officially began between the US and USSR on October 4th, 1957 when soviet russia launched the first ever sattelite into space, the sputnik 1. The USSR had the first sattelite and man in space, however, the US quickly caught up, making superior technology such as the manned spacecraft that landed the first man on the moon in 1969.

    The peace movement was created in the early 1960's and preached togetherness and love of nature. The movement increased in popularity in the late 60's due to increased civil unrest due to the extended stay in Vietnam. This movement brought about many popular forms of self expression such as tree hugging and rock and roll.

    John F. Kennedy Presidency
    John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the united states. He entered office in January of 1961 and was assassinated November 22nd, 1963. He was an advocate for peace and greatly respected those in the civil rights movement for what they were doing to better the United States. He left a legacy as one of the most beloved presidents and his death carried a big impact on the nation, causing the direct passing of the civil rights act.
  • The Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall
    The berlin wall was an armed and reinforced barrier between east and west berlin from August 1961- November 1991. It indicated the respective sides owned by the US and USSR. The quality of life on the two sides was drastically different and became more apparent as time went on. The wall was deconstructed in 1991 after it was understood as a sign of oppression.

    The cuban missile crisis occurred due to a failed attempt at overthrowing the communist leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro. Castro came into contact with Soviet Russia and agreed to allow nuclear missiles and russian involvement in cuba. As Cuba was only 90 miles from Florida, the tensions between the nations grew to the point in which nuclear war could occur at any second.

    The hotline was a very important step in the mutual agreement to end the cold war between the US and USSR. It also prevented any misunderstandings of events that might cause increased tensions between the nations as it was a direct hotline to either side.

    The march on washington is one of the most influential and well known events in American civil rights history as it included 250,000 people of different ethnic backgrounds including whites, blacks, and hispanics. The event brought national attention to the issue of discrimination and directly caused equal rights.
  • Selma Bloody Sunday

    This event was the direct cause of the selma to montgomery marches from March 7th- March 21st. This day is marked by the murder of a peaceful protestor by the name of Jimmie Lee Jackson who was clubbed and shot to death by a state trooper after trying to defend his mother.

    The voting rights act of 1965 was a huge victory for the civil rights movement. It meant that american citizens, regardless of skin color, or ethnicity, could vote indiscriminately during times of election.
  • Watergate Scandal

    The watergate scandal was an event in which government officials hired men to break into the democratic office and plant bugs to spy on opponents. The bugs were discovered and those linked to the event were eventually publicly announced. This event was the reason why Nixon resigned as president in 1974. Nixon was pardoned for his crimes by his vice president who took office after he resigned.

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    The collapse of the soviet union occurred for many different reasons. The major reasons being a failed coup of the government making the communist party irrelevant, increased unrest of the people, and liberal reforms within the government which destroyed the economy due to it being rushed. The fall of the USSR brought much economic gain to the US due to the fact that they no longer had to worry about their strongest enemy.
  • September 11th Terrorist Attacks

    September 11th Terrorist Attacks
    The 9/11 terrorist attacks involved the organization of Al Qaeda which was run by Osama Bin Laden. The event involved the takeover of 4 passenger planes and crashing them into different locations of interest. The most devastating and well known locations being the twin towers in New York City. In total, 2,977 people were killed with over 6,000 injured due to the attacks.
  • Afghanistan War

    Afghanistan War
    The Afghanistan War was directly caused by the terrorist attacks on September 11th. One of the primary hopes of the war was to remove the radical terrorists that caused the events (Al Qaeda). While they killed Osama Bin Laden, a more extreme terrorist group came to fruition in the middle east. ISIS is the current main enemy of the war as it our involvement in Afghanistan has continued for 19 years.
  • Obama Administration

    Obama Administration
    The administration was part of the democratic party and introduced the first ever african american president, Barack Obama (44th President.). Many of his policies included lowering government spending, helping military veterans, and providing increased funding to the poor through programs such as obama care. Obama served for two whole terms.
