The Magna Carta was made to keep King John of England from having so much power. It established a Limited Government which cut the power of the King and gave more rights to the citizens of England. -

Thomas Hobbes

On the Spirit of Laws was published by Baron de Montesquieu in 1748. In this, he proposed the separation of powers to divide the Government into three parts. He believed this would protect against acts of tyranny. -

Cesare Beccaria was a philosipher who is famous for writing On Crime and Punishment. This book was about the justice system and his ideas were critical but it was taken well by people and made an impact on how the U.S. justice system worked. -
First Continential Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of 16 colonies delegates. These delegates were trying to stop the British Government from controling them over in America. -
