Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax that Britain put on all legal documents, on certain, business agreements, and on newspapers. They didn't want taxation without representation. It was connected to the Declaration because this was the first external taxed levied toward the colonist. -
Boston Massacre
Colonists supported a boycott of English goods. Violent mobs erupted and British troops fired into a crowd, killing five people. John Adams defended the British officers in court when they were accused of murder in the Boston Massacre. -
Boston Tea Party
It was a Political Protest by the colonist against the British because they taxed tea. Colonist disguised as Native Americans, boarded three tea ships in the Boston Harbor. They opened the chest with tea and poured the tea in the Harbor. The colonist being fed up with taxes is part of the Declaration being created. -
First Continental Congress
A meeting with all delegates from every colony except for Georgia. The meeting was about the Parliament passing another set of laws to punish the colonist for the troubles in Boston. This was like the last straw. The Colonists were fed up. -
Intolerable Acts
What the American Colonist or Patriots called all of the laws passed by the Parliament. This was like the Last Straw. The colonist were not happy with all these laws being made against the. -
Revolutionary War
The Revolutionary War was fought between the U.S. colonist and the British. It started because the colonist were not happy with the British making all the laws. The first major Battle was Lexington and Concord. Our goal was to gain or independence from Britain. -

The first major Battle of the Revolutionary War. Known as "The shot heard around the world". Was fought three weeks before the Second Continental Congress. -
Second Continental Congress
The British government refused to compromise the colonial policies. The Second Continental Congress served as the first government of the United States for five years. After the Declaration of Independence they fought a war, borrowed funds to buy supplies and create a money system. They made treaties with foreign powers. -

The Declaration of Independence was finished on July fourth. It is the text that give us our Independence from Britain.Thomas Jefferson drafted it. Some signers included John Adams, John hancock and, Samuel Adams
