French and Indian War Ends
The war had been very expensive for the British. This caused them to have to tax the colonies exceedingly. -
Proclamation of 1763
This law stated that no colonist could pass the Appalachian Mountains to use the land there, because they did not want any conflict with the Indians there. This angered many farmers because they needed that land. -
Stamp Act and Quartering Act
The Stamp Act required a heavy tax on all legal documents in the colonies. The Quatering Act required that all colonial homes be lodging for all soldiers in the British Militia. -
Colonists Boycott
Colonists refused to buy British goods that had been heavily taxed. The Sons of Liberty were formed out of opposition of the Stamp Act. -
Stamp Act Congress
This Congress was formed in opposition to the Stamp Act. It was the first official resistance to British rule. -
Stamp Act Repealed
After it was repealed, the Declaratory Act was enforced. It said Parliament had the right to control everything in the colonies. -
Townshend Acts
These acts severly angered the colonists because of their strict enforcements of unreasonable proportion. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers fired upon an angry group of colonists, killing five people. -
Tea Act
Britain recieved an unfair advantage on taxes compared to the taxes on colonial tea. -
Boston Tea Party
Group of angry colonists disguised themselves as Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor, in retaliation to the Tea Act. -
Inrolerable Acts
These acts blatantly infringed upon the colonial civil rights after the Boston Tea Party. -
First Continental Congress Meeting
12 colonies sent delagates, all except Georgia, to a meeting to convey their concerns about the liberty of the colonies. The demanded King George to restore their rights. -
Lexington and Concord
King George responed to te FCC with Military in these two battles. This started the Revolutionary War. -
Second Continental Congress
The CC met again in Philadelphia and decided to declare an Independence which later was entered in 1776. -
Declaration of Independence
The FCC met and under Thomas Jeffersons authority they wrote the Declaration of Independence. -
