When Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln was elected south Carolina along with 6 other states seceded from the union. He agreed that the south was becoming too powerful. He made it a part of the party platform that enslavement would not be extended to any new territories or states added to the Union -
The attack on fort Sumter
The crisis over enslavement and secession became a shooting war. Federal troops at Fort Sumter had been isolated when South Carolina had seceded from Union. The new confederate insisted that the troops leave. This attack produced no combat casualties because of this attack it caused both sides to be very angry and ready for the Civil War
